Kuba hat das erste Prestige-Duell gegen den Erzrivalen USA beim olympischen Boxturnier in Athen für sich entschieden. Weltmeister Lorenzo Aragon besiegte im Achtelfinale des Weltergewichts Vanes Martirosyan mit 20:11 nach Punkten und nutzte im Ring dabei demonstrativ jede Gelegenheit, dem Kontrahenten seine deutliche sportliche Überlegenheit zu demonstrieren.

Kugelstoß-Olympiasiegerin Korschanenko unter Doping-Verdacht

Athen (dpa) - Bei den Olympischen Spielen in Athen bahnt sich ein neuer spektakulärer Dopingfall an. Die Olympiasiegerin im Kugelstoßen, Irina Korschanenko, steht unter Verdacht, bei ihrem Erfolg in Olympia gedopt gewesen zu sein. Eine entsprechende Information ist bei der kubanischen Teamleitung eingegangen. Sollte sich der Verdacht gegen die Russin bestätigen, würde die Kubanerin Yumileidi Cumba Gold erhalten, Silber ginge an die Magdeburgerin Nadine Kleinert.
